The Extension Insider is a weekly newsletter for staff across the state. It is put together by the Extension Administration (EA) Communications team and goes out every Wednesday/Thursday. Please send submissions to cce-communications@cornell.edu with a note to include your piece in the Extension Insider.  Submissions must be received by end of day on Wednesday in order to be considered for the following week's edition.

The purpose of the newsletter is to celebrate extension work and accomplishments and keep up with announcements and professional development opportunities.  

We welcome submissions for featured photos, news, and media mentions, professional development events and opportunities, staff kudos, and announcements. Please see read the guidelines below before submitting to the Insider. Inclusion in the Insider is up to the discretion of the EA Communications team.  

Featured Photos 

Featured photos should be:  

  • Timely 
  • Landscape (horizontal) orientation 
  • In focus 
  • High resolution 
  • Well lit 
  • Faces in small groups should be identified 
  • Masks in group photos should be worn properly (photos of a single individual don’t need a mask) 
  • Include staff/participants/extension work-in-action  
  • Represent the diversity of CCE in programming, participants, and staff 
  • Accessible 

Media Mentions 

Please note, we do not publish press releases, event announcements, or news/media mentions that only exist behind a paywall. Instead, we feature CCE mentions and features in the media. We try to collect news and media mentions through google news alerts, media monitoring and search, but often miss them. Please send us your news and media mentions if they meet any of the following criteria:  

  • They are timely 
  • They quote CCE staff 
  • It is a column by staff  
  • It showcases program impacts 

Professional Development Opportunities  

Please send us Professional Dev Events/Opportunities if:  

Professional event guidelines:  

  • Please limit your description to 50-75 words and include a link out to a page on the staff site/event registration form for more information 
  • Please send the start and end times for your event 
  • Include an email to contact for more information  
  • Before submitting to the Insider, which goes to all staff, consider using targeted email lists to reach your target audience: 

 Announcements  

Announcements must be relevant for all staff. If your announcement is for a more targeted audience, consider using a more targeted e-list. 

  • New Executive Director and Extension Administration staff announcements should include a headshot and short bio, along with the new @cornell.edu email address for contact 
  • Please limit announcements to 50-75 words. You may link out to a page for more information if necessary. 

Kudos 

We want to include staff kudos. We’re looking for: 

  • Retirements 
  • Staff graduation announcements 
  • Professional awards and achievements  

Please limit your kudos to 50-75 words and include a headshot if possible. 

Errata 

For items that don’t fall within the regular features, such as IT and accessibility announcements and resources on the staff site, we ask that submissions are limited to 50-75 words and are relevant to all extension staff.
